So it's careers in advertising that makes people want a Lada out of nowhere. Good to know, good to know.

You don't end up in this industry because you're normal.

We're like overpaid Carni's...

I'm in a surprisingly dull industry to want a Moskvich 412, a UAZ 452, and a Niva - or as I'd call it Greatest Collection Soviet Four Wheel Drivings of Glory. It may be from Land-Rover related off-job solvent exposure to the brain.

Maybe it's the hazardous chemicals we have in common...

Do you work with all brands or just Hyundai?

I'm freelance, so anyone who hires me. I've been lucky to work on a lot of car stuff though.

I work on what we call the 'production side'. You can break a commercial down into three parts. The 'creative' from the Ad Agency (pre-production), the actual making of the commercial by a separate production company who brings the director to the team (production), and then your editorial and effects (post production).

I'm hired by the production company on a job by job basis.

It's a tough industry to get into...

I don't have a 'regular employer' technically I'm laid off after each commercial. Then I might go back to the same company for the next one, or someone entirely different. A lot of people try to get jobs at a production company as reception, or some other position, then move into the freelance production world after they've made some contacts.

I got my 'in' by dropping out of film school and begging for a job on a movie that came to town. (I was living in North Carolina at the time.) Then I ended up working on NASCAR commercials, and I just worked every connection I could until I made it to Los Angeles.

And also, what I do has nothing to do with what happens at an As Agency...
